Come on out and dance to the fine calling of Steve Bachhuber (whom we haven't seen in quite a while!) and the music of The Occoneechee Mountaineers. If we're lucky, we'll have a cake walk too.

Anybody want to bring some cider?

Donations help rent the hall and thank the band.

Have you ever worn your costume
Four days past Halloween?
This is your chance
Down at the square dance
You can wear it out at Pleasant Green.

Have your ever ripped and snorted
While holding somebody’s hand?
Well, do that and more
Out on the dance floor
I’ll bet you five dollars you can

I’ll see you there
At NC Squares
Where time is a good time for all.
Don’t dare be late
The dance starts at Eight.

Where time is a good time for all.

Have your ever wished you were twirling
Like a leaf that falls through the air?
This is your chance
Down at the square dance
You can float and spin right down there

Have you ever heard Merry Mayhem,
A chaos of sharps and flats?
Well, do that and more
Out on the dance floor
Come see Anna Lena herd cats

Win a tasty treat
By shuffling your feet
And share in a good time for all
Invite all your friends
At Eight we begin.
This Friday’s a good time for all.

July 1 Friday Dance

posted Jun 23, 2011 8:28 AM by NC Squares

Square dance, dear square dance
Oh where can you be?
Up in the mountains,
Or down by the sea?

    Dancer, dear dancer
    I haven’t gone far.
    I’ll be here all summer
    At the Boro of Carr.

Square dance, dear square dance
What time shall we meet?
I’ve been itching and jumping
To shuffle my feet.

    Dancer, dear dancer
    We’ll meet bye and bye,
    At Eight in the evening,
    The First of July.

Square dance, dear square dance
Who will be our guests,
Besides other dancers
And those we love best?

    Dancer, dear dancer
We kick off with a bang
    To caller Todd Woerner
And the Blue Ridge Road Gang.

We're Moving to First Fridays

posted May 19, 2011 8:34 AM by NC Squares   [ updated May 19, 2011 8:53 AM ]

We're giving you another reason to say "Thank Goodness It's Friday!"

Starting July 1, 2011, NC Squares dances will be every first Friday of the month.  Yes, that includes summer months too.  We'll be having some of the first Friday dances at The Carrboro Century Center and some at the Pleasant Green Community Center.  Directions to both locations are now on our website.

Another change along with this move is that our dances will become funded by donations and not admissions taken at the door.  This makes our dances even more inviting to beginners, new-comers and the general public.

Please remember, we are a community dance and we need everyone's support to thrive and survive.  When you attend a dance, please be kind to the caller and the band by sharing your generosity.  To keep old-time music and dance a part of our community we must be willing to say they have value, and a monetary donation is a great way to do that in a meaningful way.

May 2011 Dance - Anyone can dance. Anyone can call

posted May 9, 2011 5:51 AM by NC Squares

Anyone can dance
No matter the size
No matter if young or wealthy or wise
No matter the color of hair or of eyes
Anyone can dance
By moving their toes
Their feet, their hands or even their nose
Anyone can dance
So get on the floor
And dance your heart out till you can’t dance no more

Anyone can call
No matter the throat
No matter if never you find the right note
No matter your voice may sound like a goat
Anyone can call
By moving their lips
And moving others to go move their hips
Anyone can call
It’s high time you tried
And call your heart out till your heart’s satisfied

And you’ll be having the tip top time of your life as you move and groove to the lively old-time sound of the Carolina Cutups with fiddler Buz Lloyd.

So what are you waiting for? Hop, skip, jump, and flat out run for Pleasant Green.
